Tulasi Home tries to understand the cause of brain malfunctioning and subsequent disordered thinking. Inputs about medication from inmates are taken seriously, and their concerns are addressed. Tulasi insists on nutrition. Tulasi provides a diet designed to promote good health and fosters sound dietary habits. The diet avoids all stimulants such as caffeine and all junk foods because they contain additives, refined flours and sugars, and are highly processed. Tulasi Home program promotes social interaction and development through creative and academic classes, group and individual psychotherapy, group discussions and learning through informal interaction with staff, trainers and other inmates. Classes/trainings are designed to enhance oral and written communication skills, self-understanding and self-expression. Cost of living and treatment at Tulasi is quite competitive and as most inmates advance to independent living or living with only modest outside support, long-term savings are enormous.
